New Homes in New Ways
Building Centre, London
Client: Building Centre
The Building Centre is a hub for the built environment, providing a platform for the exchange and development of knowledge. Established in 1931, the Building Centre is unique in representing and bringing together the different disciplines that form the built environment industry.
The New Homes in New Ways exhibition tells the story of how Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) can accelerate the supply of new homes, with an emphasis on delivering the social rent housing needed at pace amidst the current housing emergency. The exhibition was co-curated by the Building Centre and Housing Festival, a think-and-do tank based in Bristol.
A modular design, in-line with MMC was developed using 36mm recycled cardboard panels. These panels were self supporting and could be hinged in reference to the Housing Festival's playbook, 'Social Rent Housing at Pace', from the exhibition takes it's queue. Similarly the exhibition unfolds like a book, in a series of chapters using floor graphics to prescribe the visitor journey.
